This month’s speakers:

Join Maureen Schmitter‑Edgecombe and Raven Weaver on April 7th for their pub talk, “Staying Sharp & Staying in Charge: Brain Health and Life Planning”.

America is aging, and there is an urgent need to change the trajectory of cognitive and functional decline so that older adults can remain independent and maintain a high quality of life. Dr. Schmitter‑Edgecombe will discuss her research focused on promoting and supporting independent living through early detection, compensation strategies, and risk reduction. A cornerstone of this work is understanding how technology can be leveraged to support brain health. Join us—and don’t miss the brain health tips handout.

Then, Dr. Weaver will discuss her research focused on planning ahead and having difficult conversations that matter to maintain choice and agency. Dr. Weaver will discuss a set of initiatives designed to encourage people to engage in thoughtful, values-based advance care planning and serious-illness conversations. Though designed for health professional students, the content is relevant to everyone, no matter your age or health status!

Dr. Maureen Schmitter‑Edgecombe is a Regents Professor and Berry Family Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychology at Washington State University (WSU).
